Rome is not called the City Of Fountains for nothing. It has more or less 280 fountains all over the city. These fountains were the remnants of the Renaissance era when they were first introduced by the popes of Rome. These were built not only to enhance the looks of the city but also served the purpose of being the first waterways of the community.

The most elaborately designed fountains could be found in the plazas, courtyards and basilicas of Rome. These fountains are colossal in size and have a beautiful sculpture of their Gods in action or represented their natural environment like waterfalls. The smaller version of fountains can be found in courtyards or in the atriums of Roman villas. These fountains are either free standing or wall mounted. Regardless of its design, these fountains had one main purpose - to provide water for bathing and drinking.

What is interesting to note is that the fountain heads are ingeniously designed. Water flowed from a fountain that had a spout that are cleverly disguised as either the head of a lion or the jar being held by the woman in the sculpture. Fountains were the ancient version of your typical kitchen faucet and sink that we have today. During their time, water flowed endlessly from the open mouths of lions falling into a huge water basin where people gathered the water.

Nowadays, fountains are mere decorations that can liven up an open space in your garden or fill up a blank wall. A wall mounted Lion head wall fountain brings an ambiance of the resplendent Roman era into your abode. Place it by the wall of the entrance of your living room or on one of your walls in the garden and it instantly gives the atmosphere of opulence that Roman villas were known for.

The modern day version of the Lion Head wall fountain still features a mock sculpture of the menacing face of a lion bordered by the columns and arches you commonly see in Roman palaces. Water trickles endlessly from the mouth of the lion falling into its tiers below and creating a relaxing splash into its wide open basin. The soothing sound it creates will remind you of the tranquility of a Roman sanctuary.

This beautiful piece of art is made only of polyresin finished to look like real carved stone! It is lightweight and can easily be mounted on any wall. If you like to give your home those magnificent touches of Roman elegance then have this fountain adorning your walls!
