The art of buttercream

We theater people have plenty of superstitions. Just because I'm a Wallace doesn't mean I'm brave enough to speak the name of the Scottish play. But I don't think there's any ban on eating the theater's mascot.

Good thing for Palo Alto's
Dragon Productions, which features a purple dragon named Edna in its logo. Turns out Edna makes a pretty cute cake.

Peninsula pastry artist
Allison Stamm, a theater friend of mine, recently did up the Dragon mascot in white cake with chocolate buttercream, draped in fondant and painted with coloring. Allison's blog is filled with photos of her colorful, spirited creations.

Allison was a stage manager with Palo Alto Players before attending the California Culinary Academy. She's certainly retained her theatrical flair, as seen in her Eiffel Tower, King Tut and Alice in Wonderland cakes. I was most intrigued by the Earl Grey confection, a round chocolate cake with Earl Grey essence and a chocolate teacup topper. Brava!
